The present study analyzes several aspects of the smoking habit in two different smokers samples assessed by the same questionnaire with five year of difference. The sample of 1993 was composed by 187 smokers (mean age 34 years old, range 14-84) and the sample of 1998 was composed by 196 smokers (mean age 32 years old, range17-75). The results shows that the smokers in the 1998 sample are better informed about the effects of smoking over the health and they report more health and social smoking problems related with tobacco use Also, different relatioships between some of the variables may be of interest for programs of prevention and treatment of smoking.
